Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch – Chairman’s Report September 2015

So, the summer holidays have finished, the steam fair is in full swing and hopefully another season has passed without unwanted visitors camping on our recreation ground. We have, sadly, seen an increase in pushy doorstep sellers and I have been contacted by residents in a number of roads where this has become a real nuisance.

Due to the pressures on the 101 non-emergency telephone number, we know that people have become frustrated by the apparent lack of attention by the police, but I would urge you to report any aggressive behaviour, or those traders who will not leave.

“No Doorstep Selling” zones have been set up in some roads in our community and we are working with Borough of Poole to establish new areas, but this takes time and we need to prove a need. In the meantime, however, I am pleased to confirm though that patrols against cold calling is the priority of the Broadstone and Merley police this quarter.

Our Neighbourhood Watch contacts and co-ordinators are our eyes and ears, but if you feel there is a particular problem please email me at chair@broadstonewatch.org.uk.

We now have members in every road in Broadstone, thanks to the hard work of our membership and development officer, Jeff Davies. However, all good things must come to an end and Jeff will be stepping down soon. Can you spare some time to step into this role? Keeping an eye on membership levels and helping to recruit new members to ensure that we grow as an organisation and, crucially, keep an eye on our neighbourhoods. Drop me an email or give me a call on 01202 604191 if you think you can help.

If you are not already a member, did you know it costs just £1 per YEAR per household? We are already one of the most successful watches in Dorset, with over 3,300 members.

Research shows that communities with an active neighbourhood watch become more friendly and cohesive and experience a real fall in crime. What are you waiting for? Email me now on chair@broadstonewatch.org.uk and we can join you up straight away!
