Christmas in Broadstone is again ushered in with the Christmas Lights Switch–On and the Christmas Parade.
The Trees and Lights will be installed ready for the Big Switch–on that will take place from 6.15 pm on Tuesday 1st December outside Budgens in The Broadway.
The trees, decorations and lights are funded and organised by the businesses themselves and this year, a major sponsor is Scott Symes Wealth Management Limited.
The Switch-On is to be accompanied by the Broadstone Choir and the Broadstone Community Band. Refreshments will be provided by local traders.
The Parade takes place on Saturday 5th December and starts with a Christmas Market at 10.30 am before (and after) the procession at 1.25pm.
Broadstone’s Christmas starts with a Poster Competition in the local schools and this years winner is Kumiko, age 6, from Broadstone First School. Kumiko’s artwork will feature on the cover of the Christmas Programme and on Posters.
The Parade commences in Story Lane and follows a clockwise route that takes in The Broadway where most spectators watch. There will be a bucket collection with proceeds donated to the young and old of Broadstone. This year Hillbourne School Charity and Broadstone Age Concern Day Centre Charity will be the benefactors.
Amanda Bursey the Parade organiser encourages everyone to visit and get involved “It’s a great event and the highlight for many is the children in Christmas dress as well the special Christmas Market”.
In the week before the event there will be a Window Competition challenging visitors to locate Letters in 8 shop windows and there is a prize worth £50 donated by Forum Jewellers.
Also this year there will be a special £100 Christmas Cash Prize Draw and the winner will be picked at the Light Switch-On. The prize is part of the Scott Symes Wealth Management sponsorship and all you need to do to enter is visit Broadstone Village Facebook Page during November. It is hoped that the winner will be available to collect their Christmas Bonus on Parade Day.
Simon Merry representing the Business Community points out that you can get most of what you need for Christmas in Broadstone “There are two butchers, two bakers and two greengrocers as well as a choice of pubs, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, homeware and sweet shops. It also continues to be the only High Street in the Conurbation with Free Street Wi-FI. We look forward to seeing you and please follow Facebook to keep up to date”.
