Broadstone Horticultural Society

(For all future meetings, check the Events Calendar and look for "Horticultural Society")

The Broadstone Horticultural Society has been in existence since 1905 and still meets on the second Tuesday of each month from September to April at the Memorial Hall in Tudor Road, Broadstone at 7.30 in the evening. Membership currently stands at 180, and costs a very reasonable £4 a year. The Society is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and the Daffodil Society, as well as to the Dorset Federation of Horticultural Societies.

Meetings are dominated by two elements:

  1. A speaker (usually drawn from horticultural institutions or affiliated groups) most of whom like to give illustrated talks on their subjects;
  2. Every month there are table competitions for a variety of classes suitable for the season, from plants and flower arrangements to photographs, biscuits and jam, and a silver cup is awarded in April each year to the person who gains most points for exhibits throughout the season. Coffee and tea are served during the evening when members can catch up with each other on their news.

The Society runs two Shows per year in the War Memorial Hall,Tudor Road, Broadstone. The Spring Show, usually at the end of March and the Summer Show in the middle of August.

Advance notices of events can be seen on all public notice boards in Broadstone throughout the season, as well as in the Community Magazine, The Dorset Country Gardener and Broadstone Link and online at Broadstone Residents' Association also advertises Society events in its monthly calendar and magazines.
