We are delighted and honoured that the residents of Broadstone have elected both myself and David Newell as your new Councillors and firstly would like to offer our gratitude to the out-going Councillors for their years of dedicated service to our community.
Elections are always hard work and we would like to thank everyone for a fair contest, David and I will do our best to implement our election pledges and serve Broadstone residents to the best of our ability for the next four years.
As pledged at the election, we will never forget that council officers are spending your money. Despite a 40% reduction in core grants since 2010, Councils nationwide, including Poole have continued to provide high quality services. However, the funding challenges facing Poole council remain stark and we have to ‘work smarter’. There is some good news! We were delighted when the financial year outturn showed a surplus of £2.51m which, due to sensible cost control, we are able to use for keeping Council Tax low in future years.
We are accustomed to working with people from all walks of life and I do hope that those from other groups will recognise us as people they can do business with and that we seek to establish and maintain strong cross-party relationships even where there are clear political differences. That will very much be our approach as Councillors.
Over the coming years we will keep you informed and hope to meet many of you at our surgeries, the first of which will take place on Saturday 12th September at Broadstone Library between 10am -12 noon; come and say hello. Looking forward to seeing you.
with kind regards
Cllr Joanne Tomlin
